Monthly Recap: November

December 2, 2015 by Sana

November was so busy because of work and I still managed to finish seven books so that’s something.

LIST OF NEWSWORTHY

The only kind of outdoors I like to be is on a walk.
Clear skies // Walks in winter // Reading multiple books at a time like always

All Work, No Play
Well, okay there was some play. It just doesn’t seem like there was any because I felt so exhausted most of the time. There was pizza and cheese, though. And lots of tea like always.

Plans
I really need to start planning for next year so here’s to doing that.

Blogging Blues
I did try to blog but then I got so busy that I still have some drafts floating around unfinished in the interwebs. Sads. But I loved reading sci-fi books and I definitely want to read a lot of adult sci-fi next year. Have any recs?

TV WATCH

The episode watchlist never ends, does it.
ASLDFKDJD // Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Awkward – Well, finally? But I don’t even.
Faking It – Well, that finale was predictable af.
Arrow – I’m so over Oliver Queen being well, Oliver Queen.
The Flash – Team…Batty? Barty? Parry? Party? Whatever, they’re adorable together!
iZombie – It’s good but somebody punch Major off of this show, please.
Empire – Insane as hell.
How to Get Away with Murder – Um this show is absolutely crazy and I love it.
Brooklyn Nine-Nine – B99 keeps upping itself and I approve.
Fresh Off the Boat – The Huangs are my favorite family.
The Big Bang Theory – This show fails so hard.
The Vampire Diaries – Ha ha pretty sure it’s going to be cancelled soon, whee.
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. – THIS SHOW WILL END ME.
Blindspot – This show is winning, but that one character’s death was so not necessary and now it’s on break and why.
The Royals – 10/10 ridiculous.
Scream Queens – This show is honestly getting worse with every new episode.
Jessica Jones – I’ve only watched the pilot yet because time but fuck yeah, Jessica Jones!
Younger – I watched this in four days and it’s so ridiculous that I don’t even know what to think.

MOVIE WATCH

Gross alien is gross // Alien

Alien (7/10) – LOL to what people in eighties liked to call horror, but it was fun to watch!
Ant-Man (1/10) – I was so bored that I got sleepy halfway through and then went to bed at 2:00 am and I usually don’t fall asleep until 3:00 am.

LIST OF READS

All things considered, I’m just happy I got to finish the books I did this month.

The Lunar Chronicle is the third series I finished this year, haha.

The Fangirl’s Guide to the Galaxy: A Handbook for Girl Geeks by Sam Maggs
Lock In by John Scalzi
Cinder by Marissa Meyer (reread)
Scarlet by Marissa Meyer
Cress by Marissa Meyer
Fairest by Marissa Meyer
Winter by Marissa Meyer

LIST OF BLOGPOSTS

Not as embarrassing? Ha, right.

I posted my review of Lock In by John Scalzi
I posted my review of Divergent by Veronica Roth
I posted a guide to science fiction in YA

LIST OF BOOK BUYS

Probably the only month where I bought more hardcovers than paperbacks or eBooks.

All the pretty books. :heart eyes:
Insignia by S. J. Kincaid
Queen of Shadows by Sarah J. Maas
All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr
Fairest by Marissa Meyer
Winter by Marissa Meyer
Vicious by V.E. Schwab (I finally own the hardcover, whee!)
The Martian by Andy Weir
The Rest of Us Just Live Here by Patrick Ness
The Wrath and the Dawn by Renée Ahdieh

PLAYLIST

An all-around let’s-listen-to-everything-on-repeat month.

Lovelovelove this song // Cannot wait for Sia’s album to release. // I’m so in love with this song.

How was your November?

Monthly Recap: October

November 1, 2015 by Sana

October brought cold weather which was the best part of the month, really.

LIST OF NEWSWORTHY

It rained for the tenth time this year so I had to document it. // So many stunning illustrations!

Fall Weather
I love that my city cycles through all four seasons and that it’s finally fall even if daily raking leaves stops being fun after a few days.

Learning to Point-Cut
I decided to let my hair grow out which I’ve only done once before but it’s been two years and I hadn’t gotten a haircut. However, as I couldn’t decide on what kind of haircut I wanted, I just went ahead one day and cut them myself (after watching a ton of YouTube videos). It was liberating to say the least.

TV WATCH

I started so many new shows in October, it isn’t even funny. Just- just brace yourselves for the list below, okay.
Korra knows her stuff // The Legend of Korra
Awkward – I can’t stop watching this show so I really hope this is the last season because I’ve had it with all the recycled drama.
Faking It – A for introducing a bi character!
Fresh Off the Boat – Funny as hell.
Brooklyn Nine-Nine – This show is the best ever because it’s hilarious and gives me tons of feelings. Actually considering re-watching from the start because I just can’t get enough of it.
The Flash –  It’s definitely getting better with the inclusion of a multiverse storyline.
Arrow – It’s slowly, very slowly getting better but Oliver Queen is not.
The Vampire Diaries – It takes me ten minutes to watch an episode because it’s that bad. I wait for the day they cancel this show so that I can have a party.
The Big Bang Theory – Actually sad how much the show now relies on sexual jokes and manages to barely stay afloat.
Scream Queens – Still very ridiculous and Chad Radwell is seriously getting on my nerves. I know it’s supposed to make fun of ridiculousness because of all the good ol’ parodies but it just tries too hard.
Heroes Reborn – Out of all the shows I’m watching, Heroes Reborn is at the bottom. Can they speed up the mystery because we’re halfway through the season and it’s dulling.
Empire – HOW DARE THEY DO WHAT THEY DO TO MY FEELS WITH EVERY NEW FUCKING EPISODE.
How to Get Away with Murder – It keeps getting crazier and better with the present day storyline as well as the flashforwards.
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. – The show has been crazy good and super dark since season three premiered and I approve.
The X-Files – I watched another episode so now I’m two episodes in, ha ha.
Hannibal – I watched the pilot because I’ve been wanting to start for a long time and then I decided to pause because it’s rather slow-paced.
Quantico – Only watched the pilot yet and while it had some good parts, there were a lot of stupidly unrealistic elements that I just can’t get over.
Blindspot – I was intrigued but wasn’t sure if I actually liked the show even after binge-watching the first five episodes. However, episode six revealed something about the tattoos and now I’m excited to continue.
The Royals – It’s so cheesy and mediocre. I’m honestly only watching it for Eleanor because her storyline is the only one worth following. The rest of the cast and their storylines are ridiculous af.
The Legend of Korra – SO FUCKING GOOD. I LOVE KORRA.
Black Sails – The premise is fucking brilliant because pirates. I’m only two episodes in and already think that it’s a very underrated show.

MOVIE WATCH

Sadness wins // Inside Out

Thor: The Dark World (8/10) – Rewatch.
Avengers: Age of Ultron (8/10) – Despite the villain being so witty, I still thought it was darker than usual for a Marvel movie.
Ghostbusters (7/10) – I loved how hilarious and fun it was!
Bajrangi Bhaijaan (5/10) – Let’s just not get into this.
Inside Out (9/10) – SO AMAZING AND STRESSFUL BECAUSE PLOT.
Step Up 2: The Streets (8/10) – Rewatch and it was fun!

LIST OF READS

I wasn’t in the mood for reading much (why I watched so much TV) so I’m surprised at the number of books and comics I read.

Slowly getting back into reading adult fiction.

Monthly Recap: September

October 1, 2015 by Sana

September was a good month, but on some days it felt like it’ll never end.

LIST OF NEWSWORTHY

I took one non-bookish photo. Go me!
A whole lot of tea and music // Ellis sent me a Ronan Lynch quote tote bag! Gaaaaaah // There was a random little picnic

Fall and Peace, Please
Fall has officially arrived and I’m glad because of the inevitable cold weather. I’m very much looking forward to spending my time in peace. And do some blogging while I’m at it.

Eid Again
I got ill right after the busiest weekend ever that was the Eid. It wasn’t fun but I got to watch a lot of TV so that’s something. This is what happens when I’m unwilling to socialize.

A Little Sad
I was hoping that the cover reveal of The Raven King would happen on September 29 but nope. This book is never going to release, is it?

TV WATCH

Ah, back to watching a dozen shows again!
May the super badass // Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Awkward – Awkward is back and it’s pretty much the same drama as the last time.
Faking It – Eh, it’s okay.
Fresh Off the Boat – Jessica Huang and that is all.
The Big Bang Theory – Can this show not? I seriously need to stop watching it but it’s fascinating to watch it suck so much.
Scream Queens – A very ridiculous show that I can’t stop watching.
Empire – I CANNOT EVEN DEAL.
Heroes – Ah, so glad that’s over it. Season four sucked!
Heroes Reborn – Could be better, I guess.
How to Get Away with Murder –  IT’S BACK AND CRAZIER THAN EVER.
Brooklyn Nine-Nine – This show is currently my favorite comedy show.
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. – I LOVE THIS SHOW. Coulson, May, Daisy, Fitz-Simmons and Lincoln are some of my favorite characters ever.

MOVIE WATCH

Much running, most… running? // The Maze Runner

Pitch Perfect 2 (1/10) – Stupid and offensive af.
The Avengers (9/10) – It was fun and not as stressful as the first time I watched it haha. (rewatch)
Aloha (2/10) – Fuck no. Also, I fast-forwarded a lot because of the amount of stupid.
The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (8/10) – Finally, right?!
The Maze Runner (7/10) – It was fun even though they changed a lot of things in the movie.
Step Up All In (2/10) – NOPE.
The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (8/10) – I liked it a lot but damn, the extended version is too long. Never again.

LIST OF READS

Seems like my average has increased from five books a month to eight. Progress!

I read a play for the first and last time ever, heee.

The Girl from Everywhere by Heidi Heilig

The Assassin’s Blade by Sarah J. Maas (reread)
