Monthly Recap: April

April 30, 2014 by Sana

April was laid back and tense. In all honestly, it was pretty much an oxymoron of sorts.

LIST OF NEWSWORTHY

Nephew’s Arrival
I finally, finally an aunt to baby boy. I’ve four nieces and it’s such a different feeling to finally have a nephew in the family. He’s 9 years younger than her only elder sister and so, so adorable. He gets annoyed easily and is one of those babies who like to wake up at 2 am in the morning and wail and wail.

Days of Binge-Reading and Awe
From 3rd April to 30th April, I started and finished  Laini Taylor’s Daughter of Smoke and Bone trilogy. I didn’t think I could do it but I did and I loved every minute of it. Definitely binge-reading more series and hoping that they turn out to be as awe-inspiring as this one.

TV WATCH

I watched TV pretty sporadically but I’m caught up on most of them so that’s good.

How I Met Your Mother series finale, you sucked major balls. I shouldn’t even have mentioned it.

I’m getting bored with New Girl. I need more laughing bits.
Suits finale was EPIC and asdfghjkl.
I caught up on all of Reign and got obsessed with Torrance Coombs. My ship sank, though.
Awkward is back and I’m really glad that I can laugh on Tuesdays again which is pretty much why I watch it.
Orphan Black is back and OMFG, I love it so much.
I also started watching Faking It. I think I like it, yes.

MOVIE WATCH

April was great in terms of the number of movies I watched.

The Avengers (9/10) – I can’t even with this movie. Perfection, really. I needed amazing in my life and it delivered.
Sixteen Candles (7/10) – A classic feel good movie.
Oblivion (6/10) – Such a pretty, pretty movie but it just didn’t blow me away plot-wise. Too many unanswered questions, maybe.
21 Jump Street (5/10) – I thought it’d be way more funny than it was so, it was an okay movie.

LIST OF READS

Ha, I talked about managing to read 8 books every month and being able to get to 100 this year. And I only managed to read half of that this month. Still, not complaining because all the books I read are so freakin’ amazing.

Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell
Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor
Days of Blood and Starlight by Laini Taylor
Night of Cake and Puppets by Laini Taylor
Dreams of Gods and Monsters by Laini Taylor

LIST OF BLOGPOSTS

I put so much pressure on myself to write reviews of all the books I’ve been reading lately and it backfired because I didn’t post anything for about three weeks. But I did manage to post other stuff so I didn’t totally fail as a blogger.

I posted a 101 on how to browse catalogs and tag titles on Edelweiss.
I posted my thoughts about characters who pull a one-eighty.
I posted a top ten Tuesday list of YA for fantasy and sci-fi movie watchers.

LIST OF BOOK BUYS

Addicted to series, hmm?

The Assassin’s Blade by Sarah J Maas
Days of Blood and Starlight by Laini Taylor
Night of Cake and Puppets by Laini Taylor
Dreams of Gods and Monsters by Laini Taylor

PLAYLIST

I listened more music this month than I listened to last month and:

Panic! At the Disco‘s Too Weird to Live, Too Rare to Die is my latest favorite album ever.
Lindsey Stirling‘s music is magic and violins and magic.
Alternative folk is a genre that I can totally see myself listening to and all because of Shelly and Twin Forks.

I just bought Lindsey Sterling's new album yesterday and it's been on repeat ever since! I love Giants and Beyond the Veil, and Shatter Me is amazing as well.

I think I need to binge read Taylor's series as well; I've read the first book but I keep putting off the last two. I'm glad to hear you enjoyed it πŸ˜€

Congrats on becoming an aunt again! I had no idea. I'm planning on binging on the Daughter of Smoke and Bone books in June with Judith and Alexa. Should be fun! Hopefully.

I stopped watching Reign when everything went to crap and my ship was ruined and the plot had no consistency or anything *cries* IM SO HAPPY ORPHAN BLACK IS BACK! I still need to watch episode two though.

April was okay for me. I had a great end of the month, but the middle was frustrating and awful. Overall it was decent, so I can't really complain. I hope May is better, though!

New girl is a bit disappointing yes πŸ™ Congrats on becoming an aunt again πŸ˜€ I definitely need to pick up Days of blood and starlight, I liked Daughter of smoke and bone. I can't wait to get started in Reign once I'm done with some other series. I love the sound. The avengers is awesome!

THE ASSASSIN'S BLADE! Happy reading πŸ˜€

I love that you binge-read Daughter of Smoke and Bone! I just recently read Night of Cake & Puppets and am diligently waiting in turn to borrow Dreams of Gods & Monsters from the library because I want to physically hold that series-ender in my hands! I've been checking obsessively and I'm now #4 on the list. Gah, I should have just bought it.

Congrats on becoming an aunt again! And ahh, I haven't watched The Avengers yet! I really should soon! And yeah, New Girl has definitely started to get bleh. I remember laughing so hard during Season 1 & 2 that my sides hurt! And now, I just get so bored. Huzzah for Panic! At The Disco!

Hope you have a good May! πŸ™‚

Congratulations on being an aunt again! It must be so fun to finally have a nephew (though I'm sure you love your nieces too). Also, YES to the Avengers movie. It was perfect the first time I watched it, and the second, and the third… and even now, I still think it's perfect. I'm so excited for the next one!

Wow, it sounds like you had an amazing month! Congratulations on becoming an aunt again, that's so exciting! πŸ™‚
I also read Dreams of Gods and Monsters this month and completely adored it, Laini Taylor is amazing. Plus, I can think of no better series to binge-read!
I agree that the How I Met Your Mother finale was so disappointing, I was staring at the screen for ages after it finished just thinking what on earth was that….?!
I hope that your May turns out to be just as great as April, and that you have a lovely weekend πŸ™‚ xxx

Oh wa-hey! My comments work on blogspot now without opening Google Chrome! Muhahaha!

Congrats on being an aunt to a nephew! I have two nephews and a niece. They're alright. lol.

I don't really watch any of the TV shows you watch. I did watch Awkward for a bit, but I felt like the further along it got the less I liked the MC and just gave up. Meh. Bad reality TV shows for the win!

Aw, so sad you gave 21 Jump Street only 5 stars. I mean, it wasn't amazing, but Johnny Depp made a cameo! That was enough for me. Speaking of which, have you seen the old TV series with Johnny in it? I bought it when I went through my obsession stage. I would pretend it wasn't 20 years old and just imagine dating Johnny at that age. So sad, my life. So sad.

And you may be addicted to series, but that's okay because there's plenty of them in YA. I still need to read Nights of Cakes and Puppets and Dreams of Gods and Monsters. Soon, hopefully! And of course the Throne of Glass series. I don't mind read that series closer until the final book though. I've only read book one, and it was good, but I'm just not dying to read the rest yet… πŸ˜›

May should be pretty amazing! I mean, it's my birthday. What else is there to say?! πŸ˜›
