Top Ten Tuesday: Authors I’ve Never Read

March 4, 2014 by Sana

mfttt200px
A weekly feature byย The Broke and the Bookish
I’m slowly getting there, the top of the popular author mountain. In the meantime, I’ve never read any of these authors.

ANever2re
Left to Right: Stephanie Perkins, Tahereh Mafi, Brandon Sanderson, Susan Ee, Laini Taylor

STEPHANIE PERKINS

I love contemporary and yet, I’ve no idea why I haven’t read any by Perkins. I plan to this year, maybe I can read all three to make up for it.

TAHEREH MAFI

I wanted to read Shatter Me when it first came out. I did. I still do and now I’m going to binge-read the series.

BRANDON SANDERSON

Steelheart. Steelheart. Steelheart.

SUSAN EE

I probably wouldn’t have thought about reading her Penryn and the End of Days series if it weren’t for Eve and everyone else telling me how great it is. Angel books and I don’t do well together. I’m holding out a little hope that this one might.

LAINI TAYLOR

Another author whose series finish this year but I fail at even starting it. Oh well.

ANever1re
Left to Right: Veronica Rossi, Libba Bray, Rick Riordan, Kristin Cashore, Lauren Oliver

VERONICA ROSSI

I’ve no idea why. Or why not.

LIBBA BRAY

I feel like I want to read all of Libba Bray books but I can’t seem to ever get past that want. This year, though. Yes.

RICK RIORDAN

I love mythology so it’s a wonder why I haven’t read the most popular YA mythology. I’m still wondering.

KRISTIN CASHORE

I bought her Graceling Realm series in January because I plan to binge-read it. Fantasy YA is putting a hole in my wallet. I’ve no regrets.

LAUREN OLIVER

You probably see that I’m currently reading Panic, but I haven’t really started it yet. (Reading half a page doesn’t count, right?) Delirium trilogy is another story ’cause I even own the first two books.

Do we share any authors on our lists? Leave a link!

    YESSS TO RICK RIORDAN.

Gah I practically own a book by every single one of these authors (except Brandon Sanderson) but haven't read half of their books. That has to change this year! No excuses haha

We've both yet to read Laini Taylor. As for Stephanie Perkins, yes! I love her style, her characters, her books and I completely recommend her. I hope you enjoy!

Ooooh what a list! I haven't read many, but I did read Riordan and Oliver, and I love them! Mafi and Rossi were a let down for me, so I hope you enjoy the books more than I did.
I look forward to Bray as well. ๐Ÿ™‚
    Happy reading!

Uhhhhh I've only read Stephanie Perkins, Libba Bray and Laini Taylor off this list. :/ I'm behind, too, I guess! I prefer contemporary mostly, so I think that's why. I loved Daughter of Smoke and Bone but the second book in the series was a let down.

I enjoy Stephanie Perkins for her quirky and cute stories. I love how each is set in a different place and there are "guest" appearances by characters from her other books. It's super nice to have a cast of characters who appear again even after their stories are done.

I loved Libba Bray's A Great and Terrible Beauty trilogy and her latest book that's set in the 1920s. I still haven't read her stand-alone books though, despite the fact I've been meaning to.

This list has some of my favorites of YA on it! Ee, Taylor, Rossi! Other than Rick Riordan, I haven't read the rest on your list, but have most marked as TBR.

Okay, your entire top row needs to be read ASAP. Although I admit that I haven't read Laini Taylor either… But I do have Daughter of Smoke and Bone on my shelf!

  7. Danielle Cox says

    March 5, 2014

I just read Stephanie Perkins and Susan Ee for the first time this year, but I highly recommend their books! You must meet those boys. ๐Ÿ™‚ Also, Veronica Rossi is amazing.
I haven't read Lauren Oliver, Kristin Cashore, Laini Taylor, or Tahereh Mafi's books either.

Oh you have so many wonderful authors to be introduced to! I sometimes wish I hadn't found Laini Taylor until now, so I could binge-read her series in its heart-breakingly raw entirety. Same goes for Veronica Rossi – I could re-read Through the Ever Night for the rest of my life! Susan Ee and Kristin Cashore are the other two names on this list that you just HAVE to read, sooner rather than later. Cashore especially; her Seven Kingdoms novels are just FANTASTIC!

Well, the two authors on this list that I've actually "read" I actually also DNF'd, so I haven't read a complete book by any of these authors! Steelheart is definitely high on my TBR list though.

Your list is killing me! But, that also means that you have some awesome reads to look forward to! I personally love Tahereh Mafi's series as well as Veronica Rossi's. OH and Libba Bray is pretty fantastic as well. I wasn't a fan of her book Beauty Queens, but I adored the other things she's written.

Owning is not reading, Charlotte. But we'll get there, right? ๐Ÿ˜‰

  12. Cee says

    March 5, 2014

DUDE, READ BRANDON SANDERSON. YOU WON'T REGRET IT.

Angel books wasn't my type of book either, but Angelfall is frickin' amazing. Rarely any angel cliches. Penryn was fucking badass.

I have yet to read Libba Bray even though The Diviners is waiting patiently on my shelf. I should read it since it is set in my favorite time period!

  13. Sana says

    March 5, 2014

I prefer contemporary as well but ever since I started reading fantasy, I'm all for it. (You should definitely think about reading Maggie Stiefvater's The Raven Cycle series because it's just so good).

I planned to read Stephanie Perkins last year during the summer but never got around to it. I did read like ten other popular ones so there's that.

I think I'll start with Libba Bray's The Diviners series first.

  14. Sana says

    March 5, 2014

I'll probably read Susan Ee's series this month! *crosses fingers*

  15. Sana says

    March 5, 2014

The first book I read this year was Leigh Bardugo's Shadow and Bone. Also, I spent all of December reading Richelle Mead, Maggie Stiefvater and Sarah J. Maas books so yeah, I'm kinda on a popular author roll. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  16. Mel@Thedailyprophecy says

    March 5, 2014

We have so many authors in common. Shatter me, Steelheart, Angelfall, Veronica Rossi, Libba Bray, Rick Riordan, so you are definitely not alone! Like you know, I think Graceling is a wonderful book and I can't wait to read the other sequel/companion. I'm not a huge fan of YA Oliver, I did like her MG books though ๐Ÿ™‚

  17. Cayce says

    March 5, 2014

Oh, you should definitely read Anna, it's soo good. It's Paris, Sana, Paris ๐Ÿ˜‰ And STEALHEART!! Read. it! Read. it! You loved Vicious, so I'm pretty sure you'll love it. And OMG, you have yet (yet right??) to read Angelfall??!! I'm not a fan of angel books either, but Angelfall is AMAZING. You have to READ IT. So, ready, steady, READ! ๐Ÿ˜‰

  18. Hazel U says

    March 6, 2014

I'm gonna have to push you to read Perkins, Mafi, Riordan and Rossi, Sana!!!! YOU HAVE TO READ THEM SOON. But hey, I haven't read Sanderson, Taylor and Ee too so we're on the same boat when it comes to them. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  19. Aylee says

    March 7, 2014

Oh Sana, I can't say enough good things about Laini Taylor!! She is sooo incredibly inventive and a super talented author and storyteller. I really think you would enjoy her books, as well!

  20. Eve says

    March 7, 2014

I wish you lived somewhere close so I could kick you! You've never read Stephanie Perkins?! No Anna, Etienne, Lola and Cricket? This makes me sad. And Veronica Rossi… PERRY AND ROAR, Sana. Perry and Roar! Mostly Roar. And you have to read Susan Ee's books because of Raffe! He's such a charmer. And his relationship with Penryn is amazing.

I'm not going to judge you for the other authors, because I still haven't read their books ๐Ÿ˜€ Although I DO have Lauren Oliver's Delirium. Somewhere.

  21. Sana says

    March 8, 2014

I plan to binge-read her series this year because I just recently discovered all the awesome of YA fantasy.

  22. The Bookish Manicurist says

    March 17, 2014

I too have never read Laini's books but I hope to soon, and I hope you love Rossi and Bray's books, they are excellent!
